Went on a hike this morning.
It was a pretty Fall morning - cloudy and still. Saw a lot of mushrooms on the trail.
Listened to: Season opener of Heavyweight podcast. I really like this podcast. Jonathan Goldstein is amazing. Have been listening to him since he first appeared on This American Life many years ago and had a podcast on CBC called “Wiretap”.
Also listened to The Criminal podcast that featured the strange story of Trevell Coleman who turned himself into the police for a murder he committed 17 years in the past.
Went for a run after a couple of months. Glad that I could go 5K without breaks.

Have to find time today to watch the final episode of season 3 of “Only murders”. Just saw a headline that the show is renewed for one more season. Exciting!!!

September 29: “contrast”
The contrast of the dark nebulosity over the background of red emission nebula makes the Elephant trunk (IC1396) such a striking object.
According to the actuarial tables used by Social Security Administration (link thanks to @miljko), at my age (53) I am expected to live for another 25.86 years - about 79 years - the same lifespan my father had. I would like to live out to be 92 and watch Halley’s comet return for another visit but from actuarial perspective that is not very likely.

Hiking on Franconia Ridge trail is a workout but the spectacular views are worth that effort.

Unlike spoiling a kid, which is about catering to a child’s needs and wants for the sake of the child, overindulgence is about the adult — the caretaker “having some sort of need or discomfort they’re trying to alleviate, whether or not it’s in [the child’s] best interest,”

In May, we witnessed a Supernova flare up in the Pinwheel galaxy (M101). Can’t believe that I could capture this event from my front yard that is 21 million light years away. Top image shows location with red lines; bottom image from 3 weeks prior for comparison.
