A day with Thomas
Last Thursday, Ashwini and I went to meet her favorite Thomas, the tank engine. Thomas comes to Henry Ford Museum’s Greenfield village every year and it is a fun event. There is a train ride for 20 minutes and then, they have a lot of other activity tents with of course, a big gift shop.

Oh, funny bones!!!
On Sunday, Ashwini and I were out early morning for the “March of Dimes' walk. Thankfully, Ashwini agreed to sit in the stroller (instead of pushing it), and we were going through the park happily. We came across a boy of Ashwini’s age who didn’t want to sit in his stroller and was pushing it.
The wheel of this boy’s stroller got stuck at the edge of the paved walkway. His natural response was, “Oh, F*CK!!!” His mom said walking besides him, “No, Alex! We say… Oh Funny Bones…”
Overall, it was a good day to walk. The weather was beautiful. I bettered my record from last year and raised $900.
Happy 0.33rd Birthday, Adit!!!
Adit turned 4 months old on the 28th. He is a handful and keeping us busy.
Wearing his sister’s crown.
Here is Adit’s monthly progress report:
- Adit ...
- is a smiley, happy baby.
- is eating well, pooping infrequently and farting a lot. Hopefully, this will change as he starts solid foods in a couple of months.
- has figured out the use of his hands. He uses them to hold on to the animals on the playmat and also to grab onto his big sister's hair. He likes to put the whole fists in his mouth when it is not occupied with other things.
- has developed a loud voice for crying or just for complaining. We can hear him anywhere in the house without the monitor.
- likes to be on his tummy and lifts his head up quite well. Then, he sees his hands under his chin; they are so enticing that he forgets about keeping his head up and tries to eat both of them.
- loves to take a bath. He is happy as long as he is in the water. Doesn't like all the drying off and wearing clothes business.
- likes to interact with anyone who is willing to smile at him or talk with him. If we are talking with each other or even on the phone while holding him, he thinks that he is a part of the conversation and starts making his chatting noises.
- likes it when Ashwini reads books to him.
- just adores his sister. If she is in the room, his eyes are just fixed on her. He doesn't mind anything she does to him such as squeezing his cheeks, forcing him to hold her fingers or tickling him with her hair. I can't wait to see how they play together once Adit grows up a little.
Brain fried...
Yesterday, I was listening to my favorite NPR radio program, This American Life. In yesterday’s episode, Fake I.D., Mira Nair read a story, “This Blessed House”. It was about an Indian Hindu couple who moved into a house in Connecticut and found a lot of Christian artefacts. The story described how they react to them differently and how that related to their relationship. It was a very interesting story; I liked it a lot and was wondering who the author was.
At the end of the story, it was revealed by the host of the show Ira Glass. The story was from Jhumpa Lahiri’s hit book, “Interpreter of Maladies”. I had read that book when it came out in 1999-2000. It has been only 6 years since then, but I couldn’t recall any portion of the story when I was listening to it. There was no ‘deja vu’ feeling. What is going on with my memory? Not that I drink much or do drugs, but is my brain so badly fried not to remember something that I had read before?
It is possible that the story didn’t make a great impression on me when I read it. Because I remember other stories from that book. Sometimes, the storyteller can make a story better than it is and Mira Nair narrated it very well. Go, listen to it yourself.
Zoo playmat
Ashwini loved it when she was a baby and Adit likes it too.

An easy solution.
OK.. OK… OK…. Before you start sending me angry hatemail, there was no baby in the bassinet. When V was tidying up the bed, she put the pillows on the bassinet and I had to take a picture of it.
Kids...
Adit
- is such a smiley boy. He smiles even when he wakes up in the morning and sees someone near him.
- has figured out that he can control his hands and fingers. He loves to look at them while he moves them.
- talks in little riddles these days: "I want someone with a moustache to read me a story." "I want someone in a green shirt to change my diaper."
- has learnt to laugh like "The Nanny", Fran Drescher. Let's just say that it was funny only the first few times.

Adit's room
More than 3 months after his birth, Adit’s room is finally getting ready for him. Finished with wallpapering and installed his crib, yesterday. He slept in his new room last night very peacefully. No problems. The room still needs some decorations on the wall, but that will happen when his procrastinating parents (father, in particular) find some time for shopping.

No matter how many times I have heard it, whenever someone refers to “my dad’s wife” or “my mom’s husband”, it takes me a second to figure out what they are saying.
With a loving wife, two wonderful kids, work and house/yardwork, my life is so full that it is bursting at its seams. Wish there were a few more hours every day to play with my toys or just to get some more sleep.
Almost Spring
The green grass and the bright blue sky is here. All we need is some flowers and leaves.
